The Dale Guild Type Foundry has been cutting and casting true foundry-cast types, ornaments, borders and initials since 1993. We use foundry alloy made from virgin metals in Barth foundry casters obtained from American Type Founders Co. at their closing. All 16 machines along with two Benton Engraving Machines have been rebuilt and are meticulously maintained. We cast types from 6-24 points, and 72 point initials. We strive to maintain ATF's standards of production in our artwork, engraving and casting. We guarantee superior density, hardness and finish.
As a twelve year employee of ATF, and now master of the Guild. Theo Rehak, received his training at the American Type Founders Company. He was the last person trained at the Company before they closed their doors in 1993. Since that time, the Dale Guild has done the
artwork, matrix cutting and casting of typeface reproductions in house. We do not rely on others to do the work and then represent it as our own. We have specialized in the typefaces of Frederic Goudy and Victor Hammer, at times with very little in the way of exemplar as a guide.
The artwork has been finished for five additional typefaces, one of which is in the cutting and fitting phase at present. Among these in progress is a commission from a private press for a new proprietary font based on a 12th century Romanesque book-hand. Our art department has completed the drawings and the project has been entered upon the Guild's casting schedule for the second half of 2003. A complete list, as well as printed examples and sample types for your inspection is available upon request.
Work has been done for universities, colleges, and museums as well as historical & important private presses. References can be provided.
The Dale Guild has dedicated itself to producing the finest foundry-types available for those letterpress artisans and institutions who seek the best for projects small or large.
